Children with Special Needs

The Feldenkrais Method is a gentle, non-medical, learning-based approach to working with children with special needs. Innovative techniques are used to communicate directly with the nervous system of the child in very gentle yet powerful ways, primarily through movement, enhanced awareness, and non-verbal kinaesthetic experiences. In this way, the child develops new neural connections, learns to integrate more of self into movement and interaction, expand mobility, and develop a more positive body image.

Regardless of the specific diagnosis, the child's brain is available for potent learning and many beneficial outcomes are achieved with this approach, very often well beyond the typical prognosis for many conditions.

Some of the areas where the method can be helpful include:

  • Neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, brain damaged infants and brain injured children (including stroke)
  • Premature and Developmentally Delayed infants and children
  • Scoliosis
  • Autism disorders
  • ADD, learning difficulties
  • Genetic disorders
  • Brachial Plexus and other birth injuries
